Endangered Sea Turtles
There are five endangered species of sea turtles in the Florida Keys (see the attached document). These turtles are becoming extinct due to fisherman capturing them and pollution. The sea turtles are beneficial to the environment because they balance out the food web in the biome and they help balance the carbon levels in the water. If all of the sea turtles die, then their prey would overproduce, creating a domino reaction with the other organisms in the biome. The sea turtles distribute carbon in the water through cellular respiration. This distribution of the carbon gives the water plants, such as the mangrove trees, more carbon. Without this carbon distribution the sea plants would have less carbon and would slowly die. These sea turtles need our help and this trip will benefit them greatly.
